SambaLá Teaches in Schools

SambaLá has taught classes to children for over 5 years. It was chosen as one of the groups in Long Beach to give presentations and workshops to 12 elementary schools during the 2000-2001 school year. In their first classes, they were graded by the teachers and received perfect scores for their presentation.

Talk First

Students first learn about Carnaval, Brazil, and Samba during a brief 10-minute talk. This gives a foundation for the participation phase of the class.

Student Participation

Students not only learn about the history of Brazil but they also participate. Students learn to dance samba steps as well as play instruments all in a cooperative manor learning the vital lesson of working together in groups and respecting others. There is also a chance for students to try on colorful carnaval costumes.
