Humble Beginnings
SambaLa' dancers started back at the very beginning of the schools founding in 1994 at the Foothill Club in Signal Hill (a small village in Long Beach). Their first show was in the Ford Amphitheater and at that time, they were mostly self taught.

Local to International Shows
In the beginning, SambaLa' dancers danced for free to get experience in performance. They did festivals and appearances at nonprofit events. The first paid shows began to appear in 1995 and 1996 with organizations paying SambaLa' dancers to entertain their clients culminating in a show for 4000 people at the Las Vegas Rio and Tropicana Hotels. In 1999, SambaLa' dancers made their first trip overseas dancing for Kia Motor's in Seoul Korea and have subsequently danced in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Making History in Rio
SambaLa' lead the samba schools around the world to parade in the Sambadrome in the year 2000. There, samba dancers from SambaLa' made history being the first gringo "Madrinha" (Matron), first gringo "Rainha" (Queen) of the bateria, and first gringo Porta-Bandeira (Flag Bearer) and Mestre-Sala (Ballroom Master) to parade in Rio's famed Sambadrome.
