Madrinha da Bateria
A "Madrinha" of a school is the "Godmother" or head example for all dancers in the school. It is a position appointed by the directorate and is most often for life. This position is one of honor earned through superior dancing and dedication for and to the school.
From Rio de Janeiro, Valeria Ruggieri was the longest reigning queen of the percussion (rainha da bateria) from 2002-2007. After her reign, the SambaLá directorate appointed her Madrinha da Bateria.
