Porta-Bandeira / Mestre-Sala

The porta-bandeira (flag bearer) and mestre-sala (ballroom master) are on of the most important components of a samba school. They carry the standard or flag of the school for all to see that SambaLa' is on the avenue parading.

Making History

In the year 2000, SambaLa' became the first samba school outside of Brazil to parade their porta-bandeira and mestre sala in the Sambadrome of Rio de Janeiro as part of the Unidos do Mundo program directed by David de Hilster. Maija and Bryant (shown to the left in the year 2000) made that history.
