Baianas

Baianas of SambaLa

Baianas are a traditional ala or "group" in the samba school that are made up of women in large baiana dresses. They are the matrons of the school and get together to work on their dresses.

SambaLa's head baiana is Nilse, mother of SambaLa's madrinha, Jacqueline Cunha. She spends many hours making her baiana dresses and organizes the group of baianas every year for our carnaval parade..
