Nationality: USA School Function: Bateria, Instructor Samba Interests: Brazilian Music Bateria Instruments: Agogo, Agogo de 4, Caixa, Chucalho, Pandeiro, Repinique, Surdo 1st, Surdo 2nd, Surdo 3rd, Tamborim Member since: 2002 Biography Jason Brancazio’s love affair with Brazilian music dates to 1997, when he attended carnval in Itajai and Laguna, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Jason’s maturation as a sambista exemplifies Sambala’s approach to being a true, nurturing samba school. He took his first lesson on the very first night Sambala started offering lessons at Tony’s after acquiring the restaurant and never looked back. Since 2002, Jason has learned many of the brazilian percussion instruments, including repinique, caixa, surdo, tamborim, chucalho, cuica and pandeiro. He has directed the Sambala bateria since 2004, and led the parades from 2004 forward. He considers it an honor to lead the bateria, and looks forward to getting the audience out of their seats and on to the dance floor! |
